Headlamp Tour - Experience Industrial Culture - RUHR.TOPCARD-Special

Since the beginning of the year, the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum has been one of the "free admission" destinations that can be accessed with the RUHR. TOPCARD (RTC)! Accompany us on an exciting headlamp tour through the underworld of the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum.

The underground supply shafts used to be part of a wide tunnel system connecting underground production facilities with regular business cellars. Today they have been opened to visitors and offer an experience for all the senses.

Tours start hourly from 12 a.m. or 1 p.m  until 5 or 6 pm (end of last tour!). They are normally set on selcted Sundays or special holidays.  Please note that the tours are not barrier-free (stairs)! There is no dress code für this tour.
Please book your tour via our booking tool. You can insert your RUHR TOPCARD number during the booking process if you have one. You can only access the tour with a completed booking.

Please bring your own face mask! We recommend to bring your own flashlight otherwise we will provide one for you.

We are happy to make individual reservations (also during weekdays) für small groups up to 12 persons, class or company trips. Please contact us! Please note that your RUHR.TOPCARD is only valid for public tours.

Guided tour “Jahrhunderthalle Bochum”

Only in a few places has the past and present been so successfully united as in the historical Jahrhunderthalle Bochum monument. On an exciting guided tour you will learn a lot about the transformation of this imposing building from a gas power plant to the central festival theater of the annual Ruhrtriennale. Let yourself be awestruck by its lofty architecture, as the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum is often referred to as a landmark of the new Ruhr cultural center!

Guided tour “Underground plus Westpark”

Discover the Jahrhunderthalle "below ground". The underground supply shafts used to be part of a wide underground system that connected external production facilities throughout Bochum. In addition, you can experience the Westpark "above ground", which was opened on the former grounds of the Bochumer Verein in 1999 and represents a prime example of the new use of reclaimed land by combining nature, culture, and its industrial past.

Guided tour "Torches and Darkness"

On this tour you’ll discover the "dark" side of the Westpark around the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum. The tour takes participants back to the past of the Bochum steel and mining industry and conveys interesting information about the grounds of the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum, the Westpark, and working class life in the heyday of the Bochumer Verein. Guided by a torch to light the way, the tour guide explains the special buildings and historical points along the route.

Important information:

This guided tour takes place in the dark on partly uneven terrain - sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are required. Since the tour must take place in twilight/dark, it is only suitable for group bookings in the months of October to March.
